Opening sting for STV Sport's coverage of the Scotland team's performance during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. I was very limited in what kind of branding or images I could use, as the legal team for the Gold Coast Games trademarked many logos and phrases. This sting was broadcast on STV News during the Games in April 2018.
I chose images with movement in them since this would reflect the "action from the Games" being covered on the news. The images used are from sports image agency SNSPix, and are from the previous Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, 2014. I treated them with filters so that the final frame would look polished and not too busy - having all the images with a similar colour treatment gave them unity with each other and the background.
Rather than show a Scotland flag, I wanted to do something different which also gave the animation some depth. I used angled lines cut through to give the image some more movement and depth. Paired with a dark blue background, this conveys the Saltire without being too on the nose.
